Technology Requirements

NVU Online courses require you to use the Canvas learning management system (as of fall 2019) on a weekly basis throughout the term. In order to ensure that you can access your course content in Canvas without problems, you should comply with the following technical requirements. Failure to meet these standards means that NVU technical support may not be able to help you resolve any technical issues that may arise.

Device	Desktop computer Laptop computer Mobile devices may be used to access content but will not be supported by the university
Operating System	Windows 7 and newer Mac OSX 10.6 and newer* Linux – chromeOS*For students taking Live Online Classes, a minimum of Mac OSX 10.9 is required
Hardware	At least 3.0 GHz processor 4 GB Ram (8 GB recommended) 120 GB (20 GB free) hard drive
Browser	Always upgrade to the latest version: Chrome Firefox Internet Explorer Flash 31 and 32 (used for recording or viewing audio/video and uploading files) Safari
Internet Connection	Minimum of 512kbps* Cable or DSL connection is optimal Dial-up Internet connections are not supported *For students taking Live Online Classes, a minimum of 2.0 Mbps is required
Adobe Reader	The latest version of Adobe Reader: https://get.adobe.com/reader/
MS Office	MS Office 365 NVU students and employees can download Office 365 for free: Login to email using the direct link: https://outlook.office.com/owa/?realm=o365.vsc.edu&vd=mail Click on the settings gear in the upper right-hand corner Under “Your app settings” in the bottom right hand corner, select Office 365 Select “Install Office” and follow the instructions Note: Users with Chromebooks will need to use the web-based version of Microsoft tools.
