Technology Requirements

NVU Online courses require you to use the Canvas learning management system (as of fall 2019) on a weekly basis throughout the term. In order to ensure that you can access your course content in Canvas without problems, you should comply with the following technical requirements. Failure to meet these standards means that NVU technical support may not be able to help you resolve any technical issues that may arise.

  • Mobile devices may be used to access content but will not be supported by the university

Linux – chromeOS*For students taking Live Online Classes, a minimum of Mac OSX 10.9 is required

  • At least 3.0 GHz processor
  • 4 GB Ram (8 GB recommended)
  • 120 GB (20 GB free) hard drive

  • Flash 31 and 32 (used for recording or viewing audio/video and uploading files)

Internet Connection
  • Minimum of 512kbps*
  • Cable or DSL connection is optimal
  • Dial-up Internet connections are not supported

*For students taking Live Online Classes, a minimum of 2.0 Mbps is required

MS Office MS Office 365
NVU students and employees can download Office 365 for free:

  1. Login to email using the direct link: https://outlook.office.com/owa/?realm=o365.vsc.edu&vd=mail 
  2. Click on the settings gear in the upper right-hand corner
  3. Under “Your app settings” in the bottom right hand corner, select Office 365
  4. Select “Install Office” and follow the instructions

Note: Users with Chromebooks will need to use the web-based version of Microsoft tools.
