JSC Instructor Wins National Videography Award

Jacqueline Gregory Langley of Elmore, videography instructor for the new Communications and Community Media major at Johnson State College, has won the 2012 Communicator Awards’Silver Award of Distinction for her video, Heartbeet Lifesharing Community.

The video, produced by Langley’s video company, Backroads and Blacktops, won in the online video marketing category. Some 6,000 entrants from all over the world competed in this international competition.

The 15-minute video tells the story of Heartbeet Lifesharing Community, a 150-acre biodynamic, sustainable farm in Hardwick, Vt. Heartbeet recently was incorporated into the Camphill Association of communities, a worldwide movement that promotes meaningful living, work, education and social opportunities for people with disabilities. Langley’s video outlines the history and philosophy of the Camphill movement and includes vignettes of daily life in Heartbeet’s pastoral setting and interviews with founders, residents, volunteers, friends and family members. Langley has taught in JSC’s Writing and Literature Department since 2007 and has produced several videos for the college over the past two years. In addition to teaching video production for JSC’s new major in communications and community media, she also teaches at the Community College of Vermont.

Before joining JSC, Langley was an assistant professor for 10 years at Hawaii Pacific University, where she developed and chaired the college’s multimedia degree program. Under her leadership, video students won 15 professional awards. Before that, she was a documentary field producer at WCBS-TV and WWOR- TV in New York City.
