Northern Vermont University Financial Aid Terms and Conditions

  • Students must be enrolled full-time (12 credits or more) every semester to be eligible for scholarship support.
  • Scholarship awards can only be applied toward the academic year (fall/spring semesters).
  • Only students enrolled in campus-based undergraduate programs are eligible for scholarship support. (Distance Learning students are not eligible to receive awards except where noted. Early Childhood Education students at Lyndon are eligible for the same discounts as campus-based undergraduates).
  • First-year students are eligible to receive up to eight consecutive fall/spring semesters (four years) of scholarship support.
  • For transfer students, scholarships are awarded for the estimated length of time it would take to complete their degree (not to exceed 8 consecutive semesters).
  • Transfer students and new, first-time students are eligible for the same scholarship awards.
  • A cumulative 2.5 GPA is required to maintain eligibility for scholarships except the Valedictorian and Salutatorian which require a 3.0 GPA.
  • Good Neighbor/Regional (NEBHE) Awards or family discounts are not dependent on GPA.
  • Valedictorian and Salutatorian scholarships cannot be combined with any other merit scholarships or family discounts.
  • Out-of-state Valedictorians and Salutatorians receiving Good Neighbor or Regional (NEBHE) Awards will receive one half of the Valedictorian or Salutatorian scholarship amount.
  • Changes in residency or becoming a Good Neighbor/Regional (NEBHE) eligible student will reduce your original scholarship amounts.
  • A change in housing status — for example, moving from campus housing to off-campus housing, or moving in with parents —may affect scholarship amounts.
  • To receive the family discount two or more family members must be enrolled full-time. Students receiving a tuition waiver are not eligible for this discount.
  • Students receiving a tuition waiver are eligible to keep the Futures Scholarship in the amount awarded unless the student lives off campus, in which case the maximum amount will be $2,000. Tuition waivers can not be combined with the Good Neighbor/Regional (NEBHE) Awards, Futures Achievement Scholarships or family discounts.
  • As an NCAA Division III institution, Northern Vermont University is prohibited by NCAA regulations from offering any athletics-related financial aid. Athletic ability, participation, or leadership is never considered in the awarding of NVU scholarships.
  • NVU reserves the right to adjust all merit scholarships, discounts or awards if it has been determined the student’s required terms and conditions have changed or have not been met.
